Process

The Law Office of Wayne B. Becker strives to simplify complex legal concepts to make them understandable for clients and their advisors. The easier the process is to understand, the more efficiently we can construct a plan based on your unique needs. Our legal process is broken down into three to four steps, based on your individual needs.
Step 1: Initial Meeting A complimentary, no-risk consultation, this meeting is designed to give us a chance to get to know each other. Here, we’ll go over any pre-existing estate planning documents you may have, as well as a general list of your assets, and we’ll determine broad planning priorities. An example would be whether a will-based or trust-based plan is best for your circumstances.
Step 2: Design Meeting – To understand how your plan may function under different scenarios, we will lay out the architecture of your plan and then break it down step-by-step to make the plan more understandable. By the end of this meeting, our goal is for you to fully understand the approach we will be using.
Step 3: Review and Signature Meeting – At this point, we’ll have a documented draft of the plan we designed together at the previous meeting. We’ll walk through each document and explain how the structure of the plan works in written form. If we are all comfortable with the plan, witnesses and a notary will join us to sign all of the documents.
Step 4: Funding Meeting – If we decide to use a trust-based plan, you’ll be asked to put together a detailed list of all your assets and how they are presently owned. In order to best accomplish your planning goals, we’ll offer recommendations on the proper way to title this property, or “fund” the trust.
To gain forward momentum, we ask clients to commit to meeting three or four consecutive weeks – ideally on the same day, at the same time. The Law Office of Wayne B. Becker operates on a flat-fee basis for estate-planning work. For more information about our four-step planning process, please contact us by calling 352-394-3109 today.
